The principle: Ingeniously simple, simply ingenious

KOSTYRKA® expanding sleeves are used, among other applications, for clamping rotary tables and dividing heads as well as for clamping the rotation axis (C-axis) in machining centers.

The flexible base body of a KOSTYRKA® expanding sleeves, with and without a flange, is made of a metal-plastic composite. Unlike the regular clamping sleeves, the hydraulic pressure is applied from the inside, which expands the base body slightly. As a result, the part that encloses the expanding sleeve is clamped. The oil pressure is converted into a radial clamping force without any loss or reaction. Once the oil pressure is released, the sleeves spring back into their original position and the previously locked part is released again. With this frictional connection, the surfaces of the parts to be clamped are not damaged.

Your task our solution

Depending on the application, a distinction is made between expanding sleeves with and without a flange. Expanding sleeves without a flange can absorb purely axial forces, while sleeves with a mounting flange are able to absorb both axial forces and torques.

Clamping diameters from 8 (0.32 in) to over 1,000 mm (40 in), pressures up to 600 bar (8700 psi)

The smallest KOSTYRKA® expanding sleeve currently available has an outer diameter (clamping diameter) of 8 mm (0.32 in). The largest expanding sleeve currently produced has a clamping diameter of over 1000 mm (40 in). Operating pressures of up to 600 bar (8700 psi) are also possible. KOSTYRKA is also happy to move into other dimensions together with the customer.

Usually, the clamping sleeves are made of bronze. In special applications, for example for spindle clamping devices or very fast rotating parts, the sleeves are made of steel.

EXPANDING SLEEVES WITHOUT A FLANGE

Expanding sleeves without a flange are able to absorb axial forces. Customized sizes start at a diameter of 8 mm (0.32 in) and can go up to a clamping diameter of over 2000 mm (80 in).

EXPANDING SLEEVES WITH A FLANGE

Expanding sleeves with a flange are able to absorb both axial forces and torques. For this purpose, the sleeve is bolted to the customer's housing via the flange. Expansion sleeves with a flange are always customized. The dimensions start at a diameter of 8 mm (0.32 in) and can go up to a clamping diameter of over 2000 mm (80 in).

If desired, KOSTYRKA can also supply expanding sleeves completed with a housing. In this case, you receive a clamping unit that is ready to install.

  • Several Kostyrka® clamping sleeves of different sizes per machine are used in machining centers at Gebr. Heller Maschinenfabrik GmbH - only very small installation spaces are available.

  • In machining centers from Starrag Technology GmbH, the rotary axis (C-axis) can be clamped in any axis position using KOSTYRKA expansion sleeves. Holding torques of approx. 30,000 Nm (22000 ft lb) are applied.
